Bristol County Savings Bank, through its charitable arm the Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation Pawtucket advisory board, recently awarded $25,000 to Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center.
Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy is a network of tuition-free public schools chartered by the Rhode Island Department of Education. It will use the grant to expand the school’s string program and start a music program at its new high school opening this fall in Cumberland.
“Music is integral to Blackstone Valley Prep’s academic program. While many other schools and districts are reducing the amount of time spent in music and art classes, we are doubling it. We believe it helps our scholars excel academically, enriches their learning and makes them more well-rounded,” said Jeremy Chiappetta, executive director of Blackstone Valley Prep. “We are incredibly grateful to the [foundation] for believing this, too, and for helping us bring music to scholars in more grades and in all of our schools.” •
