WASHINGTON – The 2013-14 freshmen at Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design scored highest in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts on SAT tests, according to the latest data available from the U.S. Department of Education.
SAT scores for critical reading, math and writing ranging from the 25th to the 75th percentile for each school were supplied by the federal agency. The score at the 25th percentile meant that 25 percent of students scored at or below that level, while the score at the 75th percentile indicated that 25 percent of students scored at or above that level.
SAT scores were not provided by Johnson & Wales University, Roger Williams University or Wheaton College, which do not require them. The Community College of Rhode Island and New England Institute of Technology have open admissions, so there was no data reported.
The information can be found by visiting www.nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator, plugging in the school name, choosing the state, and public or private nonprofit institutions, and searching under “admissions” statistics within the database on the National Center for Education Statistics website.
The Brown statistics, for instance are HERE.
The following table lists the scores for schools in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts, ranked by the halfway point between the 25th and 75th percentiles. In addition, the Education Department listed the total number of applicants and the percentage of admitted applicants who enrolled, with rankings based on the percentage yield (those offered admission who enrolled at the school):
