PROVIDENCE – In addition to being one of the top universities in the country, Brown University has the best extras, according a recent survey by OnlineSchoolsCenter.com.
The website ranked the 30 colleges with the best extras, recognizing colleges and universities with “benefits and amenities geared towards enhancing the overall experience of students.”
“This list of 30 colleges with the best extras offers a group of schools with exciting events, festivals, programs, organizations, facilities and amenities provided on their campuses. It is meant to introduce students to schools that allocate proper funds and resources to campus and student life,” the website says about the ranking.
Brown ranked 16th for a calendar of events that the website describes as “absolutely full of on-campus opportunities.” Prominent speakers and musicians are highlighted, as well as the annual Spring Weekend food and music celebration, and club sports, which include polo, ice hockey, skiing and taekwondo, all of which have regularly scheduled competitions.
Coming in at No. 1 was the University of California, Berkeley, for more than 1,200 clubs and organizations “that will satisfy the spirit of any student,” the website states.
OnlineSchoolsCenter.com’s lead researcher Rowan Jones said, “this list of extras represents each academic institution’s commitment to an active and healthy campus life. A large portion of individual student’s college experience is made up of their life outside of class. Without a strong collection of amenities, facilities, and a well-booked calendar of events, students may feel less inclined to dedicate themselves to their academic careers, or to the integrity of their alma mater. Not only is college about expanding one’s mind, future career opportunities and education, it is also about trying new things and self-exploration. These extras are emblematic of each school’s dedication to the lives of its students.”
