Brown health care program appoints advisory committee

PROVIDENCE – Brown University’s Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership program has created a new nine-member advisory committee to help the program focus on the nation’s rapidly changing health care landscape.

The new committee includes executives from health care industries as well as medical, academic and foundation leaders.

“We are very pleased and energized to have an advisory committee of this high caliber,” Jennifer Aizenman, EMHL program director, said in prepared remarks. “Our EMHL program serves the changing needs of executives, and our advisory committee brings real-world knowledge of the rapidly evolving health care landscape and helps ensure that the program continues to drive the cutting edge of the health care arena in the future.”

Members of the new advisory committee are:

• Peter Andruszkiewicz, president and CEO of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island

• Dr. Anne C. Beal, chief operating officer at the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute

• Karen Davis, president of the Commonwealth Fund (through December 2012) and director of the Roger C. Lipitz Center for Integrated Health Care at Johns Hopkins University (as of Jan. 1, 2013)

• Constance A. Howes, president and CEO of Women & Infants Hospital

• William Looney, editorial director of Pharmaceutical Executive magazine

• Robert Restuccia, executive director of Community Catalyst

• Dr. George Thibault, president of the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation

• Stephen Weiner, chair at the Health Law Practice Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo, P.C.

• Gail Wilensky, economist and senior fellow at Project HOPE.

“As leaders from the provider, insurance, life sciences, legal, advocacy and scholarly communities, our advisory committee members will share their insight and expertise to help ensure that the program exceeds expectations and delivers exceptional value to our students,” Judith Bentkover, academic development director of the EMHL program, said in a statement.

The Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership program is designed for leaders in clinical care, hospitals and health system administration, insurance, the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors and from legal, consulting and patient advocacy settings.

It is an accelerated program of “intense study focused on leading transformative change in the health care industry,” according to the university release.
