Bryant naming diversity center after PwC in recognition of record $1.35M gift

SMITHFIELD – Bryant University on Wednesday will name its diversity and inclusion center after PwC in recognition of the global accounting firm’s gift of $1.35 million to support diversity and inclusion in scholarship and leadership.
The donation is part of the university’s $75 million capital campaign, “Expanding the World of Opportunity: The Campaign for Bryant’s Bold Future,” which has already raised $54 million, exceeding a previous campaign that concluded in 2004, the university said in a press release Tuesday. The funds will target student scholarships and leadership development.
“The unique partnership between Bryant and PwC is beneficial to the students of the university and the clients of our firm,” said PwC Partner Bob Calabro ’88, who is also a member of the university’s Board of Trustees. “This new step in that relationship will broaden what we can offer to help train and develop young diverse talent well into the future.”
The PwC Center for Diversity and Inclusion, to be located within Bryant’s Michael E. ’67 and Karen Fisher Student Center, comprises Bryant’s Intercultural Center, Gertrude Meth Hochberg Women’s Center, Pride Center, disability services, the Interfaith Center and campus ministries. The various centers and services work together to support diversity and inclusion for a student body of approximately 3,700 undergraduate and graduate students.
The naming ceremony for the donation, which is a record amount for the university, will take place on campus at 2 p.m. on the second floor of the student center.
PwC, also known as PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, has been a corporate partner to Bryant for more than three decades, working with the university to increase diversity at the school and within the accounting profession. Bryant’s accounting program is ranked as No. 4 in the country by College Factual/U.S.A. PwC currently employs more than 300 Bryant University alumni, the university said.
“Bryant is extremely grateful for our longstanding partnership with PwC, which has contributed so much to the transformational learning experiences of our students,” said Bryant President Ronald K. Machtley. “Beyond their leadership financial participation, PwC partners generously contribute their time and expertise to enhance the vibrant educational experience of Bryant students.”
