Bryant redesigns MBA program, adds specializations


SMITHFIELD – Bryant University has redesigned its MBA program, offering three new MBA specializations, an undergraduate major and a new course with a study-abroad component.

On Friday, Bryant announced that it is offering specialized MBA degrees in global supply chain management, global finance and international business.

The school also added a new global supply chain management major for undergraduate students pursuing a bachelor of science in business administration or international business.

“Bryant University’s focus on delivering an education with an international perspective is part of our strategic plan,” Michael R. Cooper, dean of the College of Business, said in prepared remarks.

“These newest MBAs and undergraduate programs are a natural extension of our mission to deliver an exceptional education that prepares students to succeed in the global marketplace,” added Cooper.

In addition to the new specializations, Bryant is offering the Global Immersion Experience, a new three-credit MBA course, which includes 10 to 12 days of international travel.

The first GIE course will take place in January in South America, according to the school. While there, students, who have been working on a consulting project for executives at international firms and government agencies, will present their recommendations.

“The GIE helps our MBA students gain an appreciation and understanding of the complexities that companies face in today’s global environment,” Kristopher Sullivan, assistant dean of Bryant’s Graduate School of Business, said in a statement. “Their experiences with the international firms will equip them with knowledge and skills that will differentiate and allow them to excel in a crowded marketplace.”

According to the school, Bryant’s MBA in international business is currently ranked 27th in the nation by Bloomberg/Business Week and is one of the school’s fastest-growing undergraduate academic programs. Enrollment more than doubled between 2006 and 2012, jumping from 150 students to 322.

“The redesigned MBA curriculum reflects the needs of companies that hire our MBA graduates,” Sam Beldona, associate dean of the Graduate School of Business, said in prepared remarks. “Introducing these specialized areas of study and integrating them with a domestic and an overseas consulting project will clearly give our students an advantage.”
