CCRI grad survey shows high rate of employment, continuing ed.

WARWICK – More than 90 percent of graduates from the Community College of Rhode Island class of 2012 have found employment, continued their education or pursued a combination of both, according to the school’s most recent Career Placement and Graduate Transfer Report.

The report tallied self-reported survey responses from 1,435 graduates, or 80.6 percent of the graduating class of 2012.

“As New England’s largest community college, CCRI is a valuable resource for students of many different backgrounds and with many aspirations,” said CCRI President Ray Di Pasquale in the report. “CCRI students are continuing to persevere in the face of challenging times, and we are thrilled to be able to help them reach their goals.”

Of the 1,435 respondents, 540, or 37.6 percent, said they had found full-time employment since graduating, while 118, or 8.2 percent, said they were employed full time and continuing their education part time. The number of respondents employed part time was 194, or 13.5 percent.

Among the graduates surveyed who chose to continue their education, 173, or 12.1 percent, said they were attending school full time, while 273, or 19 percent, worked a part-time job on top of a full-time academic schedule.

In total, 1,298 graduates, or 90.5 percent, of the survey respondents said they were either employed, in school, or pursuing a combination of work and school. Thirty-four respondents, or 2.4 percent, said they were currently unavailable for employment, and 103 or 7.2 percent said they were unemployed and actively searching for a job.

Of the graduates who decided to continue their education full time, 88.3 percent said they were enrolled at colleges and universities in Rhode Island, and 85.1 percent of graduates who had found full- or part-time employment worked in Rhode Island.

CCRI’s class of 2012 was its largest to date, Di Pasquale said, with a total graduating class of 1,781 students.
