CENTRAL FALLS – The crowd funding project launched by the city of Central Falls to purchase public sculpture waste and recycling bins for Jenks Park reached $1,871 of the $10,044 goal as of the end of October.
The city is raising money through www.citizinvestor.com, a crowd-funding and civic-engagement platform for government projects.
The out-of-the box plan to raise money for the bins was launched in light of the city’s strained finances, after emerging from a bankruptcy declared in 2011.
The receptacles will be designed by the Steel Yard, a catalyst for the arts and industrial projects located in Providence, which has created an extensive range of public art, including many trash and recycling cans, bike racks and benches in municipalities including Bristol, Warren and Providence, designed with input from the community.
“We’re encouraged by the 36 investors who have pledged so far,” said Central Falls Director of Planning and Economic Development Stephen Larrick. “We’re very confident we’re going to succeed in getting this project funded.”
Central Falls’ crowd funding project on www.citizinvestor.com is scheduled to wrap up on Dec. 22.
