WOONSOCKET – CVS Caremark Corp. announced the appointment Monday of Tracy Bahl to the position of executive vice president of health plans.

In his new role, Bahl will lead the team responsible for supporting CVS Caremark’s health-plan clients and guiding them through the health care marketplace as it evolves under the Affordable Care Act.

“As health care reform continues to spur unprecedented and rapid changes across the health care system, CVS Caremark is focused on providing health plans with value and insights to help them manage the increasing complexity of the marketplace,” said Jon Roberts, president of the Pharmacy Benefit Management business at CVS Caremark. “Tracy is a great addition to our team, and we look forward to working with him to continue to develop innovative solutions and offerings for health plans.”

Bahl brings to CVS Caremark nearly 30 years of experience as a health care executive. Most recently, Bahl worked for General Atlantic LLC, a global growth-equity investment firm based in Greenwich, Conn., where he supported portfolio companies and investments in the health care space as a special adviser on the health care team.

Before joining General Atlantic, he served as CEO of the Uniprise division of UnitedHealth Group Inc., which comprised the company’s national accounts, consumer health, financial services, and service and technology operations divisions. Bahl has also worked for Cigna HealthCare in a variety of regional and national health plan roles.

Bahl holds a Bachelor of Arts from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., and MBA degrees from London Business School and Columbia Business School.

In other news, CVS/pharmacy announced Monday the launch of its 10th annual in-store fundraiser to support the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Thanks and Giving campaign, a holiday program aiming to raise awareness and funds for the hospital’s research and treatment of childhood cancer and other diseases.

Now through Dec. 7, CVS Caremark employees will encourage customers to add a $1 or $3 donation to their purchases at the register to support the Thanks and Giving campaign. Customers shopping online at www.CVS.com/StJude also will have the opportunity to donate $1 at checkout.

Since the campaign’s inception in 2004, CVS/pharmacy and its customers and employees have raised more than $37 million to support St. Jude Children’s. In 2012, CVS/pharmacy raised nearly $6.4 million nationwide.

“The incredible support we receive from CVS/pharmacy and their loyal customers during the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign is critical in our fight to end childhood cancer,” said Marlo Thomas, national outreach director for St. Jude and daughter of hospital founder Danny Thomas. “St. Jude is where doctors send some of their toughest cases, because we have the world’s best survival rates. CVS/pharmacy’s commitment helps us continue that lifesaving work while staying true to my father’s founding promise that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing and food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.”

Funds raised by CVS/pharmacy customers during the Thanks and Giving campaign support the CVS Caremark Rehabilitation Services Center at St. Jude in Memphis, Tenn., where children with terminal diseases such as cancer have access to audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech-language pathology services to help them recover from developmental, cognitive or physical impairments due to their illnesses.

“CVS/pharmacy is proud of its customers and colleagues who for nearly a decade have made a significant impact in the lives of children living with cancer and other deadly diseases through their generous support of the Thanks and Giving campaign,” said Eileen Howard Boone, senior vice president of corporate philanthropy and social responsibility for CVS Caremark. “As a pharmacy innovation company committed to helping people on their path to better health, we commend St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for all the work they are doing to treat children with cancer and the lifesaving research they share with experts across the world to help find cures.”
