Moore Award for leadership and corporate community engagement during the 2014 CECP Summit. Boone was recognized for her philanthropic leadership and achievements, including the creation of the All Kids Can program, as well as her role in the decision to ban tobacco products in all 7,600 stores. Under her leadership, CVS Caremark Corp. has donated nearly $75 million in 2013 to promote better health.

Eileen Howard Boone, CVS Caremark Corp. senior vice president of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy, recently received the Charles H. Moore Award for leadership and corporate community engagement during the 2014 CECP Summit. Boone was recognized for her philanthropic leadership and achievements, including the creation of the All Kids Can program, as well as her role in the decision to ban tobacco products in all 7,600 stores. Under her leadership, CVS Caremark Corp. has donated nearly $75 million in 2013 to promote better health.

PBN: What health concerns do you think deserve the most national attention right now?

BOONE: Smoking is the leading cause of illness and death in the United States, with more than 480,000 deaths annually. Our philanthropic focus is on increasing access to health care for underserved populations and investing in innovative approaches to chronic-diseases management. We know that smoking exacerbates many chronic diseases and will be working with our partners to support cessation efforts.

PBN: Of all the programs and initiatives you have brought to fruition at CVS Caremark, which one do you feel most strongly about?

BOONE: While at CVS Caremark, I’ve had the honor of playing a role in creating and managing some truly rewarding and successful programs and partnerships that have made a positive impact on communities nationwide. I am extremely proud of our All Kids Can program that launched in 2005. Our goal was to help raise awareness in schools and local communities about the importance of inclusion for children with disabilities, as well as help kids of all abilities on their path to better health. To date, the All Kids Can program has committed more than $60 million in support of nonprofit organizations nationwide and the program has made a positive impact in the lives of nearly 20 million people.

PBN: You have served as a board member for several wellness and advocacy organizations. What made you choose to pursue this type of industry?

BOONE: In my role at CVS Caremark, I have had the opportunity to work with some of the best organizations that focus on wellness, prevention and providing quality health care. It has been wonderful to be able to extend my work with these organizations, like Easter Seals, Crossroads and Hasbro Children’s Hospital, by serving on their boards or advisory councils. Many of the organizations I work with are focused on helping children achieve their best health – which resonates with me, as a mother. I’m also very excited about working with partners to support the youth anti-tobacco movement. As I’m sure every parent would agree, we should be working together to help the next generation be tobacco-free. •
