CVS makes Fortune top 50 list of World’s Most Admired Companies

WOONSOCKET – CVS Health Corp. made Fortune magazine’s top 50 list of the World’s Most Admired Companies, coming in 27th, an improvement over last year’s ranking of 45th.
“We’re proud to be included among Fortune Magazine’s World’s Most Admired Companies and share this honor with our employees across the country whose hard work and dedication made it possible,” CVS spokeswoman Carolyn Castel said in a statement.
The magazine described the list as its “definitive report card on corporate reputations.” It said it worked with its survey partners at the Korn Ferry Hay Group to whittle down approximately 1,500 companies – the Fortune 1,000, which are the 1,000 largest U.S. companies ranked by revenue, and non U.S. firms in Fortune’s Global 500 database with revenue of $10 billion or more.
The top 50 was created by asking 4,000 executives, directors and securities analysts who had responded to industry surveys to select the 10 companies that they admired most.
Apple was first on the list of the top 50.
Fortune also rated 340 companies in 54 industries – in the food and drug stores category, CVS ranked third for the second year in a row. CVS’ Fortune 500 rank of 10 was noted, as well as its Global 500 rank of 30.

Other companies that are based elsewhere, but have a local connection, and were recognized on the industry lists include:

  • Amgen Inc., of Thousand Oaks, Calif., which has a production facility in West Greenwich, placed seventh in pharmaceuticals
  • Bank of America Corp., based in Charlotte, N.C., placed fifth in the megabanks category
  • General Dynamics, of Falls Church, Va., parent company of General Dynamics Electric Boat in North Kingstown, placed sixth in aerospace and defense
  • Honeywell International, based in Morristown, N.J., which has a plant in Smithfield and is closing a plant in Cranston, ranked fourth in electronics
  • Medtronic PLC, based in Ireland with operations in Mansfield, ranked second in medical devices and equipment
  • UnitedHealth Group, based in Minnetonka, Minn., ranked first in health care: insurance and managed care
