CVS to pay $600K for mishandling records

WOONSOCKET – CVS Pharmacy Inc. will pay $600,000 to settle federal allegations that it mishandled prescription records related to controlled substances at two Connecticut stores, the Hartford Business Journal reported.

According to investigators, the CVS store at 326 Main St. in Southington, on at least 2,886 occasions failed to keep paper Schedule III-V prescription records for controlled substances in a separate prescription file or readily retrievable location away from other prescription records, in violation of the law.

Investigators also allege that on 31 occasions the same store failed to keep Schedule III-V purchase invoices in a readily accessible location separate and apart from other records required to be kept under law.

The New Britain CVS store at 713 Main St. also breached its Schedule III-V prescription-filing duties on at least 4,936 occasions, authorities allege. •
