CVS trust gives $2.6M in grants to nonprofits

WOONSOCKET – The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust announced last week that it has given $2.6 million in grants to 66 nonprofit organizations across the United States.
The new grant recipients –including United Way of Rhode Island, which is receiving $100,000 for its BrightStars initiative – were chosen through the 2012 CVS Caremark Charitable Trust’s annual grant cycle.
According to a news release, grants totaling more than $680,000 will support a wide range of services, from wellness programs for military veterans to breast screenings for underserved woman. More than $285,000 will support programs that are implementing coordinated care for children with disabilities.
Additionally, more than $400,000 will go toward early-intervention services for children, including the Marcus Autism Center in Atlanta, which was awarded a grant to implement eye-tracking technology to diagnose children with autism earlier.
United Way of Rhode Island’s $100,000 grant will go toward a program that gives families in Rhode Island access to quality child care, early-learning and school-age programs, CVS said. •
