Camel rides available at Roger Williams

PROVIDENCE – Camel rides and rock climbing are being offered at the Roger Williams Park Zoo through the month of May, and beyond.
The camel rides are available daily, while the rock climbing wall is available on weekends in May.
Both activities will be offered daily beginning on Memorial Day, May 26.
The camel rides are operated by Camels Unlimited next to the Big Backyard area of the zoo. Rock Spot Climbing has set up a four-sided tower in the Wilderness Plaza at the other end of the zoo. In addition to regular zoo admission, camel rides are $6 per person and the rock wall $5 per person. Revenue from both offerings will be used to support animal care and continued improvements at the zoo, said Jeremy Goodman, the zoo’s executive director.
“The camel rides and rock wall give our guests new ways to add a sense of fun and adventure to their zoo experiences,” said Goodman. “And the camel rides provide a direct interaction between people and the animals that studies show can help grow the human-animal bond. This is important to our mission of building a sense of connection with and caring for wildlife and the natural world.”
Participants for both activities must be three years or older. Rock wall climbers must have close-toed shoes, and waivers must be filled out prior to climbing the rock wall. Participants ages 17 and younger must have their waiver completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian. The waiver can be completed in advance online at rwpzoo.org/seasonal-offerings.
Tickets for both activities will be available 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., and the lines for both will close at 4:30.
The zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from April through September, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from October through March. The last admission is one half hour before closing.
