PROVIDENCE – Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups or candy corn?
Apparently they are both the most popular Halloween candy in Rhode Island.
CandyStore.com, a candy seller that said it ships thousands of pounds of candy every year, listed candy corn as the favorite Halloween treat of Rhode Islanders, followed by M&Ms and Twix.
A day ago, Influenster.com, a shopping website, claimed Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were a trick-or-treating favorite in the Ocean State.
But CandyStore.com said it based its findings on eight years of research, looking at sales from 2007-15, and focusing on the three months leading up to Halloween.
And, with 16,731 pounds of candy corn sold in those three months, the sweet, waxy treat took the top spot. In comparison, 11,583 pounds of M&Ms were sold, and 7,078 pounds of Twix, CandyStore.com said.

It said Rhode Island “may be the smallest state in the U.S., but it has a big appetite for candy corn.”
CandyStore.com included a little historical trivia with profiles about each states’ favorite Halloween candy.
In Massachusetts, Butterfingers are the favorite Halloween candy, something CandyStore.com said had to do “with why all that tea slipped out of their hands and into the harbor back in 1773. Doh! Perhaps not. But what our candy history tells us is that this state certainly loves this chocolate peanut butter candy bar. Over 650,000 bars are eaten here.”
Connecticut, it said, likes “Almond Joys as much as alcohol,” noting that in addition to Rhode Island, Connecticut was the only state to never ratify the 18th Amendment on Prohibition.
“We’re sure they won’t outlaw this favorite chocolate, almond and coconut candy bar anytime soon either. We wouldn’t want them to start making this confection in bathtubs. It would take a lot of bathtubs to make 26,000 bars!” CandyStore.com wrote.
