PROVIDENCE – Care New England announced today that is partnering with Epic as its new ambulatory clinical information technology partner, moving all of the hospital network’s employed physicians and practices to a single electronic medical record platform.

The $17 million, three-year project will bring physician practices into a new era of health IT, encompassing medical records, professional billing, scheduling, provider and patient portals, and secure mobile interfaces.

In selecting Epic as its technology vendor, Care New England follows the choice made earlier by Lifespan, the state’s largest hospital network, to install an Epic technology platform as part of a four-year, $100 million project to redesign its health care delivery model and build a new health IT infrastructure.

“This is all about the patient,” said Dennis D. Keefe, president and CEO of Care New England. “We believe that Epic’s quality design, ease of use and fluid communication among care teams will lead to improved safety, better outcomes and higher patient and physician satisfaction.”

“It was clear after our analysis that there was a single best choice, and that was Epic,” said Dr. Cedric Priebe, senior vice president and chief information officer at Care New England.
