PROVIDENCE – Odds are not in your favor if you happen to be in Providence during a zombie attack.
That’s according to a survey released Thursday from CareerBuilder.
Usually known as an employment website, CareerBuilder has switched gears to become zombie apocalypse experts just in time for Halloween.
“If there was a zombie apocalypse, would your city prevail or be overrun by the walking dead?” the website asks. “CareerBuilder is answering this question with a totally practical and 100 percent feasible study that gauges survival rates based on concentration of occupational skills and industries.”
CareerBuilder ranked the 53 largest metropolitan areas assuming “a standard, flesh-eating virus” is either transmitted through biting or through contact with infected blood. Cities then were evaluated on their ability to defend against the virus, contain the virus, ability to find a cure, and ability to outlast the epidemic with an ample food supply.
Based on that research, Boston is the place to be in the event of a zombie apocalypse. The next closest haven would be Hartford, Conn., which ranked ninth safest. Providence has the misfortune of being 34th on the list, which is better than a separate “study” conducted last year by real estate website Trulia that said it was the worst city to hide in the event of a zombie attack. Last on the CareerBuilder list is New York City, preceded by Tampa, Fla., and Los Angeles.
CareerBuilder offered another tidbit of information in the event of a zombie attack:
“In a separate and equally practical CareerBuilder study, 36 percent of workers said, if they were a zombie, they would feast on their co-workers.”
