Carr to be honored by College Crusade

PROVIDENCE – The College Crusade of Rhode Island will recognize James L. Carr Jr. of H. Carr & Sons for distinguished service at its 2015 Believe Breakfast on Nov. 13.
The breakfast runs from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Providence Marriott Downtown and is dedicated to educators, state policymakers, business leaders, philanthropic organizations, community agencies and families who support the academic and career success of Rhode Island’s youth.
James L. “Jamo” Carr, Jr., of Holliston, Mass., will be honored with the 2015 Dr. Americo W. Petrocelli Distinguished Service Award. It is given annually to an individual who has made an extraordinary contribution to the field of college access and success.
Carr, who has served as CEO and president for H. Carr & Sons Inc. for the past 40 years, is a longtime supporter of The College Crusade and a respected civic leader in Rhode Island.
Chanravy Proeung, of Cranston, also will receive the 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award, which recognizes a College Crusade alumnus or alumna who has had exemplary college and early career success and who demonstrates a commitment to community.
Proeung graduated from Classical High School in 2004. She earned a Bachelor of science degree in nursing from Rhode Island College in 2009 and is a national organizer for the Southeast Asian Freedom Network and a 2015 Soros Justice Fellow.
Paul Harrington, director of the Center for Labor Markets & Policy at Drexel University, will deliver the keynote address, “Economic Recovery and College and Career.” Close to 400 guests are expected to attend.
