PROVIDENCE – The Center for Dynamic Learning today launched a Career and Exploration Center to help city teens gain hands-on skills in the technical trades, engineering and manufacturing fields.
The Center for Dynamic Learning is a “STEAMM” organization providing workforce training in science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics and manufacturing. It will host the Career and Exploration Center at 1 Luisa St.
At the new Career and Exploration Center, training programs are open to local teens aged 13-17 who are interested in careers in technical, engineering and manufacturing industries, said Executive Director Beth Cunha.
Cunha announced the center’s launch at the Center for Dynamic Learning’s annual meeting at the Statehouse.
The Career and Exploration Center will have expanded evening sessions in addition to STEAMM-based programming during and after school and in the summer, Cunha said. Among the programs are 3D design and modeling, engineering measurement, precision tool room machine operation, fabrication, welding, electrical design and repair, robotics and public presentation.
The Rhode Island Foundation and the city of Providence have helped fund the initiative, she said. The center received a $50,000 community development block grant from the city. The Rhode Island Foundation awarded a grant for $20,914, Cunha said.
Programs will allow Providence teens of low or moderate income to try a variety of classes at a reduced rate of $35 per session. Income guidelines apply.
