Centreville Bank aids Meals on Wheels with emergency program

WEST WARWICK – The Centreville Bank Emergency Meal Program at Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island officially launched in mid-November.
This program, established by the Centreville Savings Bank Charitable Foundation, ensures that Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island homebound clients across the state will have food when inclement weather or other emergencies prevent the organization from delivering meals.
The bank is paying for the cost of the emergency meals program in part through an earlier $50,000 donation to the nonprofit, according to Meals on Wheels and the foundation.
Each meal package contains five non-perishable meals, and includes dried milk packets, canned goods, soup, cookies, raisins, applesauce, juice and other items that do not require refrigeration.
Centreville Bank CEO and President Tom Lamb recently delivered a meal package to homebound senior Caryl Saccoccio of Cranston. Assisting Lamb were Senior Vice President Nancy Ferrara and Cranston Branch Manager Justin Bissanti.
“As we learned last year, Rhode Island winters can be challenging,” said Lamb. “Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island is so important to people all over Rhode Island, and we are pleased that we can further support their great work.”
Heather Amaral, Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island executive director, and Marlene LeRoy, director of development and public relations, said they are grateful for the program.
“Thousands of Rhode Island homebound seniors rely on these special deliveries,” said Amaral. “In fact, many recipients have written special notes to Centreville thanking them for providing this ‘safety net.’ Centreville Bank’s commitment to the health and well-being of our vulnerable senior population is inspiring.”
Since 1969, Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island has focused on the well-being, independence, dignity and safety of seniors, the homebound and disabled. As the only nonprofit home-delivered meal program in the state, the organization also provides a Senior Café program, a pet food program and a Senior Wish program.
Founded in 1828 and headquartered in West Warwick, Centreville Bank has seven branch locations in West Warwick, Coventry, West Greenwich, East Greenwich, Wickford, Narragansett, and Cranston, and assets of $1.02 billion. The bank partners with nonprofits through its charitable foundation.
