Chafee, Coit to award $4.2M in grants

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee and R.I. Department of Environmental Management director Janet Coit are expected to award $4.2 million in grants at a ceremony today at 3:00 p.m.

The $4.2 million in recreational development and acquisition matching grants will be split between 35 projects in 23 communities across the sate.

The money will be used to fund basketball, tennis and horseshoe courts, skate parks, sports fields, handicap docks, nature trails, restrooms and other site improvements, according to a release.

The meeting will take place Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in the Governor’s State Room.
