Chafee kicking off March for Meals campaign

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee will kick-off the March for Meals Campaign on behalf of the Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island on March 4 at 11 a.m. at the nonprofit’s offices on Bath Street with a proclamation announcement before he delivers hot and nutritious meals to homebound seniors.
The governor will be accompanied by Bob Twomey, regional vice president of Webster Bank, the campaign’s presenting sponsor.
“Governor Chafee’s strong voice will provide much needed visibility for our mission. In this tough economy, the food and human contact we provide is needed more than ever,” said Heather Amaral, Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island executive director, in a statement.
March for Meals is a national campaign initiated by the Meals on Wheels Association of America. Throughout March all Rhode Island congressional delegates will take time to deliver meals to homebound seniors. Mayors statewide on March 20 will also deliver meals during Mayors For Meals Day.
The campaign is sponsored by, in addition to Webster Bank, CVS Caremark, AAA of Southern New England, Cox Communications, Income Protection Partners, Mandel & Tracy LLC, Partridge Snow & Hahn LLP, Washington Trust, and Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage Inc.
