SOUTH KINGSTOWN – ChartWise Medical Systems Inc. has been selected as a Red Herring top 100 North America winner, meaning it has been recognized as one of the technology industry’s top private companies.

According to information from Red Herring, the awards, which were held on June 3, highlight the “most exciting startups” and represent technology or life sciences companies that are privately held.

ChartWise bills itself as an industry leader in computer-assisted clinical documentation improvement software. It developed Chartwise 2.0.

Award winners are chosen from approximately 1,200 privately financed companies each year in the United States and Canada.

“In 2015, selecting the top achievers was by no means a small feat,” Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring, said in a statement. “In fact, we had the toughest time in years because so many entrepreneurs had crossed significant milestones so early. But after much thought, rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across North America to the North America winners. We believe ChartWise Medical Systems embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture. ChartWise should be proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was very strong.”

ChartWise was selected as a winner based on criteria including financial performance, technological innovation and intellectual property of the ChartWise 2.0 software solution, as well as the company’s business model and its customer footprint.

“The entire ChartWise team is thrilled and grateful to be acknowledged by Red Herring as a Top 100 North America winner,” company founder and CEO Dr. Jon Elion said in a statement. “ChartWise is devoted to developing and delivering cutting-edge documentation improvement software to hospitals and medical centers across the country. Receiving recognition on this level is humbling and also drives us to continue to innovate in an effort to provide the most valuable software solution we can to our customers.”

Elion also served as a keynote speaker for Red Herring Top 100 2015. His session was entitled “Lessons Learned” and allowed him to pass along some of the most valuable lessons he’s learned in the health care technology industry.
