NEWPORT – Newport is the third most expensive summer destination in New England, behind Provincetown, Mass., and Kennebunkport, Maine, according to a survey by CheapHotels.org.
The survey compared hotel rates for 30 popular destinations in New England for the July 1 to Aug. 31 travel period and came up with the rankings based on the average cost of each location’s cheapest available double room.
Only centrally located hotels rated with at least two star ratings were considered by the survey.
Visitors to Provincetown will have to spend, on average, $247 per night for a double, while those in Kennebunkport will spent overnight rates of $234, and Newport, $226.
The prices reflect the minimum amount travelers will have to spend to stay at a certain destination this summer, according to CheapHotels.org.
Massachusetts destinations dominated the top 10: Chatham and Falmouth, both of which, like Provincetown, are on Cape Cod, as well as the island of Martha’s Vineyard, and the cities of Cambridge and Boston.
