PROVIDENCE – In a statement released Monday, the Rhode Island Manufacturers Association announced Dave Chenevert, the organization’s acting executive director, took over as executive director effective Jan. 1.

The manufacturing veteran said he saw the promotion as “challenging,” but is excited by the opportunity to lead RIMA and add value to the membership.

“I have a strong passion to see RIMA be successful,” he said.

On Monday morning, the organization also announced it will hold a conference addressing the impact of marijuana in the manufacturing workplace in light of last year’s vote to legalize recreational marijuana in Massachusetts. For this lecture, the organization will provide a panel of experts representing legal, human resource and workers’ compensation subjects.

Chenevert hopes to hold a discussion like this one once every six to eight weeks on topics that are relevant to how businesses run their operations.

“I try to keep the membership informed of issues they’ll be facing and get them prepared to face it in a logical and professional manner,” he said.

Chenevert, who stepped up to lead the transition after former executive director, Bill McCourt, stepped down, has 46 years of experience in the manufacturing industry. He recently sold Cumberland-based Swissline Precision Manufacturing Inc. & Swissline Products, a precision computer numerical control manufacturer serving the medical and aerospace industries, after building it up from four employees to 65 over 31 years of operation.
