PROVIDENCE – Dr. James McDonald has been hired as the new chief administrative officer of the Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline for Rhode Island, the R.I. Department of Health announced.
McDonald began work on Feb. 27; he had previously served as Director of Health Services for the Naval Health Clinic in Newport since 2008, where he was an advocate for patient safety, physician accountability and wise stewardship of limited government resources. McDonald holds board certifications in pediatrics and preventative medicine.
“Dr. McDonald is an acknowledged leader of physician organizations,” said Dr. Michael Fine, director of the R.I. Department of Health. “We are impressed with his deep commitment to the integrity of professional practice and his commitment to protecting the safety of all Rhode Islanders.”
