Children’s Friend accredited by Prevent Child Abuse America

PROVIDENCE – Children’s Friend, the Healthy Families America affiliate, has been accredited by Prevent Child Abuse America as a provider of high-quality home visiting services to families who want to improve their child’s health, nutrition and developmental outcomes.
HFA, a PCA America program, has provided home visiting services for more than 20 years. Through community partners like hospitals and pediatricians, HFA connects with families and answers the questions of expectant and new parents, within the family’s home. Home visitors are trained in a wide range of issues that might stress new parents: new baby care and feeding, promoting healthy child development and coping with other potential stresses, such as financial, housing and partner relationships, that may heighten with the birth of a baby.
The accreditation process is based on a stringent set of 12 critical elements grounded in more than 30 years of research. The process involves an in-depth examination of the site’s operation as well as the quality of the visits made by HFA home visitors.
“We commend Children’s Friend for opening itself up to such an intensive review process,” said Cydney Wessel, HFA’s national director. “We believe that all families and all communities deserve access to quality home visiting services.”
“Children’s Friend is … providing services to kids and families in accordance with a national model, which has been proven to reduce child abuse and neglect, reduce the number of children needing special education services and increase the educational level and financial security of parents,” said David Caprio, Children’s Friend’s president and CEO.
