Children’s Museum kicks off reading program

PROVIDENCE – The Providence Children’s Museum is hosting a summer reading program kick-off event today from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the museum on South Street. It is being presented by the Rhode Island Office of Library and Information Services which is running the program.
Ten local children’s book authors and illustrators will read their stories, answer questions, and sign and sell books: Linda Crotta Brennan, Anika Denise, Chris Denise, Terry Golson, Kara LaReau, Peter Mandel, Jamie Michalak, Kelly Murphy, Ammi-Joan Paquette and Alison Paul.
Local children’s librarians will offer book-related activities and recommended booklists for children.
The 2012 Summer Reading Program runs through August with events scheduled regularly at libraries throughout the state and themes centered for different age groups.
The Providence Children’s Museum event is recommended for ages 4 to 10, whose program theme for the summer is Dream Big READ!

The children’s museum is open today from 5-8 p.m. free of charge for “MetLife Family Friday-Free at Five!” sponsored by MetLife Foundation.
