Children’s museum gala raises $81K

PROVIDENCE – The Providence Children’s Museum raised $81,000 that will help allow the museum to provide play and learning opportunities for children and families in need at its annual gala “Unplugged-The Way to Play” on April 26 at the Botanical Center at Roger Williams Park.

More than 200 attended the event which is held to celebrate the “spirit of creativity and innovation, and the Museum’s commitment to children’s imaginative free play” according to a release.

The museum reported that supports bid nearly $18,000 on 60 live and silent auction items and purchased 20 charitable Children’s Museum memberships for low-income families.

The event also honored the following local innovators for their “spirit of creativity”: Ava Sprague Anderson, founder and CEO of Ava Anderson Non-Toxic, which educates consumers about health risks in personal care products; Barrett Bready, president and CEO of NABsys, Inc., which works to make whole-genome DNA sequencing available fast and inexpensively; Dennis Littky, co-founder and co-director of The Big Picture Co., The Met School and College Unbound; Navyn Salem, executive director of Edesia Global Nutrition, which works to prevent childhood malnutrition in developing countries; Jim Stallman, owner of M.H. Stallman Co., a fabricator and distributor of innovative foam products; Max Winograd, president and co-founder of NuLabel Technologies, a polymer science and engineering company; and Meg Wirth, founder and CEO of Maternova, a global marketplace for maternal health that accelerates life-saving technologies for women and newborns in low-income countries.
