Chorus gets $11K from Wash. Trust

WESTERLY – Marking more than five decades of support to the Chorus of Westerly, Washington Trust recently presented the organization with a check for $11,000.
The years of support extend to the bank’s annual contribution of a team of volunteers, who set up the staging and acoustic performance “shell” for the chorus’ Summer Pops in Downtown Westerly’s Wilcox Park.
Over the years, funding provided by Washington Trust has helped the more than 200 chorus members renovate their performance hall, fund the Pops event and support performances abroad.
This year, Washington Trust is again a key sponsor for Summer Pops. Bank President and Chief Operating Officer Edward “Ned” Handy presented the check to Ryan Saunders, executive director of the chorus; Andrew Howell, music director; and Doug Rayner, Summer Pops chairman.
“Organizations like the Chorus of Westerly excel at bringing together their community with events like the Pops,” said Handy. “Here at Washington Trust, we take our distinction as the largest community bank headquartered in Rhode Island quite literally. We are very much a part of each and every community we serve and our history with the chorus is a great example of that commitment.”
Saunders thanked the bank for its repeated, longtime support.
“Whenever we have approached Washington Trust for support, guidance, or leadership they have answered the call,” he said. “We are especially grateful for their major role in supporting such a great community tradition as Summer Pops for the past 34 years. …Washington Trust is a true champion of the arts, the town, and the Chorus of Westerly.
