Circle of Stars event raises nearly $190K

The Providence Center’s annual Circle of Stars fundraising and awards event, raised more than $185,000 to support services that prevent substance abuse and support mental well-being for adults, children and families.
The event honored the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 328 for the group’s contributions to the Joyce House, the center’s new homeless-veterans program. Local 328 has also helped organize food drives, scholarship programs and other community-driven campaigns.
Local 328 was presented with an original painting, titled “Liberty,” by a resident of the Joyce House. The gift was received by secretary-treasurer Jim Riley.
Simmy Carter, associate director of the Early Childhood Institute and director of Imagine Preschool, was also honored at the event. Carter was praised for her dedication to helping children reach their full potential, as well as her ability to empower families to make positive changes within their lives.
Carter was presented with a steppingstone created by children at the Early Childhood Institute. The stone will be installed in the playground at the Child and Family Services Center in Providence. •
