PROVIDENCE – The Citizens Bank Foundation has selected 13 projects in the Olneyville neighborhood of Providence to benefit from a $60,000 grant presented by the foundation’s “Growing Communities” initiative.
The winning projects, announced Monday, are designed to support local businesses, improve availability of health food and provide job training, according to a foundation release. The effort will be carried out in partnership with Local Initiatives Support Corporation. LISC will also benefit from a $60,000 grant from Citizen’s Bank Foundation, which will support the corporation’s community building project titled “Our Neighborhoods”.
The “Growing Communities” project is part of the bank’s Citizens Helping Citizens Strengthen Communities program, which aims to support economic development and vitality in communities.
“By investing in businesses and organizations that provide important services and healthy food options to local residents, this partnership with LISC will help to energize the Olneyville neighborhood,” Ned Handy, president of Citizens Bank and RBS Citizens in Rhode Island, said in a statement.
“The 13 projects selected will stimulate economic development in this neighborhood by encouraging patronage of local businesses, strengthening workforce development, and ultimately creating jobs,” added Handy.
In a release, Mayor Angel Taveras expressed gratitude for the bank’s and LISC’s efforts, “Investments like these directly benefit those who live, work and own businesses in our neighborhoods.
