Citizens Bank donates to Food Pantry

NEWPORT – Citizens Bank recently donated $10,000 to the Feed a Friend Food Pantry.
The mobile pantry helps combat hunger throughout Newport County by offering nutrition education and flexible hours and locations for working families.
The grant allows the food pantry to continue offering its services to low income children and families at places like the Martin Luther King Community Center.
Last year, the pantry served 1,842 people. Clients include homeless individuals, the unemployed or underemployed, families from the center’s childcare programs, individuals with various risk factors, and low-income seniors, adults and children.
Citizens’ employees also plan to support the community center and food pantry by volunteering at upcoming food and toy drives, among other activities.
The community center has been serving the neediest in the Newport community for 92 years.
The bank program, dubbed Citizens Helping Citizens, supports the community goals of Citizens Financial Group, Inc., the commercial bank holding company serving consumer and small business customers as Citizens Bank and Charter One and commercial banking customers as RBS Citizens.
Fighting hunger is one of five key initiatives.
