Citizens’ community<br> work draws praise

PROVIDENCE – RBS Citizens Financial Group has received international recognition for its Citizens Helping Citizens community investment initiative.
The Miami-based Sponsorium Awards honor “companies from around the world who are improving the quality of community life in their local markets and globally.” RBS Citizens won because of the way they’ve integrated the community into sponsorships through Citizens Helping Citizens, a program embracing the community goals of the company and partnerships with nonprofits.
“RBS Citizens Financial Group is recognized as a leader in meeting their community objectives and is truly making a difference in local communities,” said Paul Pednault, founder and president of Sponsorium. “We’re pleased to spotlight [RBS Citizens] and congratulate the bank’s colleagues on their ability to deliver such a positive impact.”
The bank’s Citizens Helping Citizens program addresses five key areas: hunger, housing, economic development, financial education and volunteerism through multiple initiatives. The program initiatives are supported directly by [RBS Citizens]and its nonprofit charitable foundations, the Citizens Charitable Foundation, the Citizens Bank Foundation and the Charter One Foundation.
One example of the work RBS Citizens did was to deliver more than 400,000 meals for families in need in 2013 by integrating the bank’s sponsorships, which included Phans Feeding Families, Striking Out Hunger with the Pawsox and Boston Summer Arts Festival, with efforts to support food banks. The bank also partnered with the Philadelphia Phillies to help more than 7,000 Philadelphia-area children participate in the Phillies’ Jr. RBI baseball league.
Barbara Cottam, executive vice president and head of corporate affairs for RBS Citizens, said the bank is honored to receive the award.
“We could not achieve this kind of impact without the close partnerships we have built with local nonprofit organizations in each of the communities we serve,” she said. “We share this recognition with our partners and thank them for their leadership.”
Sponsorium provides online Sponsorship and Community Investment Management software to brands in more than 50 countries. The organization has offices in Canada, the United States, Mexico, South America, Europe and Australia.
