United Way of Rhode Island recently announced that Citizens Bank Foundation has invested $160,000 in the organization’s Community Impact Fund in support of 2-1-1 and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
As part of the Citizens Bank Foundation gift, $100,000 will support United Way 2-1-1, the statewide 24/7 information and referral hotline that connects individuals with critical human services. The remaining $60,000 will be used to fund 25 statewide Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites that will provide free tax services to working Rhode Islanders who earn less than $50,000 annually to help them receive the money they are due in refunds and tax credits.
“The Citizens Bank Foundation has been a longtime supporter of United Way of Rhode Island and its mission to build a better community,” said Barbara Cottam, executive vice president, head of corporate affairs, RBS Citizens Financial Group. “The foundation’s grant will provide access to 2-1-1 for more than 200,000 people who use it annually and will help to impact the Rhode Island economy through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.” •
