Citizens mobile app takes top spot in customer ranking

PROVIDENCE – Thanks to high customer ratings, Citizens Bank Mobile Banking apps tied with USAA for “best integrated apps” in the latest Javelin Strategy & Research rankings.
The free app, available from the Apple App Store and in Google Play for Android operating systems, allows bank customers to retrieve balances, pay bills, transfer funds and create a screen shot for record keeping, among other things. According to the bank, from October 2011 to October 2012 use of the mobile banking app increased more than 130 percent, growth that Citizens attributes to the addition of the app for Android systems and the addition of new features.
“We are honored to receive this recognition following our recent enhancements,” said Michael Cleary, executive vice president and head of consumer banking distribution for RBS Citizens Financial Group. “We are committed to continuing this level of investment to ensure we will continue to meet the needs of our customers.”
The Javelin 2012 Mobile Banking Financial Institution Scorecard benchmarked the mobile banking services of the 25 largest U.S. banks by deposits. In addition to ranking banks for best integrated apps, the Javelin issued kudos for best in class – which went to Chase for the second year in a row, with Bank of America coming in second. B of A also scored highest for having the widest mobile accessibility through device and mode, according to Marketing Daily. Javelin noted that mobile banking is now used by 33 percent of all mobile consumers, a 37.5 percent increase in the last year.
Citizens Bank was named one of the region’s “Innovative Companies” by Providence Business News for its mobile app in the fall in the Fastest-Growing & Innovative Companies recognition program.
