Citizens names Baker head of business services

PROVIDENCE – Citizens Financial Group Inc. has appointed Mary Ellen Baker as head of business services, effective Aug. 8.
Baker is the former executive vice president of enterprise services for PNC Financial Services Group Inc. Previously, she worked for Bank of America Corp. as head of enterprise resiliency and corporate services, as well as for the consumer and small business bank, as head of technology and operations. Baker has headed projects such as companywide planning, new technology implementation and crisis response initiatives, according to a press release.
Baker is tasked with overseeing the technology, operations, information and corporate security, property services, vendor management and change management functions. She will report to chairman and CEO Bruce Van Saun, as well as serve on Citizens’ Executive Committee.
“Mary Ellen is exceptionally qualified to lead our technology, operations and corporate services areas as we work towards our goal of making Citizens a top-performing regional bank,” said Van Saun in prepared remarks. “With more than 30 years of banking experience, she has an impressive background in leading technology and operations teams and managing major organizational change programs.”
Former head of business services, David Bowerman, relinquished his position to Baker in order to return to the United Kingdom after 34 years of combined experience at Citizens and The Royal Bank of Scotland.
“I’d like to thank David for the key role he played in our separation from RBS and our IPO,” Van Saun said. “Under his leadership, we have made a wide range of strategic investments in technology. His efforts have helped us run the bank better, improve the customer experience and collaborate more effectively across the organization.”
