PROVIDENCE – Citizens Bank has tapped retail banking veteran Simon Griffiths to become its new executive vice president and head of retail distribution.
Citizens Bank, a Citizens Financial Group Inc. company, joins the bank having most recently worked with Santander managing its retail branch network, according to an announcement. Beginning Oct. 13, Griffiths will be responsible for managing Citizens Bank’s approximate 1,200 branches, 3,200 ATMs, online and mobile banking, digital sales and marketing related to consumer banking throughout its 11-state footprint.
“As we pursue our strategy of becoming a top-performing regional bank, we are very pleased to have seasoned retail banking executive like Simon join our executive leadership team,” said Brad L. Conner, vice chairman of consumer banking, in a statement.
Griffiths will report directly to Conner.
Citizens, headquartered in Providence, is the largest Ocean State bank by deposits with 36.1 percent market share, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
Citizens says Griffiths comes to the bank with nearly 20 years of leadership experience. Prior to working with Santander, he worked at JPMorgan Chase in various positions including head of branch administration and market manager for all retail branches for its Silicon Valley and Seattle markets, according to the release. Griffiths also worked at Washington Mutual and Accenture.
“Simon’s extensive and successful track record in the industry makes him a great fit for Citizens as we leverage the convenience of our retail network to help Citizens Bank customers access the products, services and expertise they need to meet their financial goals,” Conner said.
Citizens Financial Group reported $137.3 billion in assets at the end of last quarter.
