City Year Providence awarded $200K BofA Neighborhood Builders grant

PROVIDENCE – In acknowledgement of City Year Providence’s commitment and service to the capital city’s community, Bank of America awarded it a $200,000 Neighborhood Builders grant at the start of last month.

Bill Hatfield, Rhode Island president, Bank of America, said City Year participants “embody the spirit of service we at Bank of America are committed to fostering.”

Neighborhood Builders grants recognize leadership potential in nonprofit organizations and deliver funding over two years. In addition, the grant invites the organization’s executive director and an additional staff member to participate in a leadership development fund with the aim of increasing their impact on the local community. Over its 15-year history, the award has helped nearly 2,000 directors and emerging leaders throughout the U.S.

Jennie Johnson, City Year Providence executive director, said the award is well-timed, as the program is gearing up to launch its first initiative for high school-aged students at Central High School. Currently, 5,000 Providence-based students are served by City Year AmeriCorps members at six public Providence schools.
