NEWPORT – The Rhode Island-based nonprofit Clean the Bay has a new name – Clean Bays, according to a press release from the organization.

The group removes marine debris from shores and waterways of Narragansett Bay and southern New England and works to be a model for debris clean-up methodologies, engineering and sustainability.

“Our mission isn’t just to clean up Narragansett Bay. It’s about our entire interconnected ecosystem,” said Clean Bays Executive Director Kent Dresser.

Founded in 2005, the group has completed projects such as removing more than 30 tons of large marine debris from the Pawcatuck River, Little Narragansett Bay, Stonington Harbor and Mystic River last summer. Previous cleanup projects have been in Narragansett Bay.
