At the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau, our purpose is to benefit Rhode Island's economy through leisure travel and by booking conventions and sporting events into the destination.
It is a highly competitive market that becomes tougher every year, and we are often up against larger cities with bigger budgets. Yet, we have been able to not just succeed but to thrive, generating more than $70 million annually through meetings and sporting events alone.
The secret of our success lies in both collaboration and communication. We forge strategic partnerships with our clients, with our community partners, and even within our own staff. For those partnerships to succeed, the channels of communication must be clear and open.
Our clients rely on us to provide them with everything they need to make their meeting or event successful. It is up to our team to be both timely and accommodating. In our world, no request is too big or too small. Playing a key role in the execution of an excellent program results in a higher probability of gaining future business.
As an informational clearinghouse for all types of visitors, we work with our community to make sure we are up to date on what is happening in the destination. Our team is in constant contact with our hotel partners and continually meeting with scores of arts, culinary and nonprofit partners. This continual and open line of communication eliminates the need for hasty phone calls scrambling for information and allows our staff to be flexible and nimble. •
