Portsmouth-based Clements Market recently donated more than 500 cases of dry goods to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank to support the nonprofit’s Holiday Meal Drive.
More than half of the employees at Clements chose to participate in the drive by contributing anywhere from 25 cents to a few dollars per week.
“We wanted to offer our employees an opportunity to make donations to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank,” said Tracy Anthony, general manager of Clements Market. “The employees were really happy about being able to help their neighbors – 60 percent of our 140 employees chose to participate.”
Clements supported its employees’ participation by looking for wholesale deals on healthy food items in order to make the most of the contributions.
“This contribution from the employees and management of Clements says a lot about their relationship with the community they serve,” said Rhode Island Community Food Bank CEO Andrew Schiff. “They understand that many people in Rhode Island are struggling to put food on the table.” •
