Clements employees donates to Food Bank

Posted 12/28/12

PORTSMOUTH – Employees at Clements Market in Portsmouth donated $15,000 worth of nutritious food to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank through small payroll deductions from 60 percent of its staff over the year.

Clements used the donated funds to purchase 17,700 – or 10 pallets – of fresh produce, canned vegetables, flour, stewed tomatoes, pasta, rice, canned soup and more.

“The generosity of my employees never ceases to amaze me,” said Tracey Anthony, Clements Market general manager, in a statement. “My staff loves the simplicity of the program and they see how much good it does. Participation continues to grow every year.”

Employees are given the option to donate as little as 25 cents per week to the Food Bank fund and some give more. Last year the contributions resulted in a food gift with a retail value of $12,000.

The Food Bank’s holiday meal drive ends Dec. 31. Donations are being accepted every weekday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Food Bank’s facility at 200 Niantic Ave. in Providence. Financial donations also are being accepted.
