Nick Kishfy, founder and CEO of MojoTech, is no stranger to making something from nothing. The Barrington resident began his career working on venture-backed startups, bringing other people’s ideas to life. He would watch them take off, but without the satisfaction that comes from launching one’s own product.

So in 2008, Kishfy started MojoTech, which builds Web and mobile applications for its clients. A business that started with Kishfy working on his patio kept growing and moving forward, going from a small office in Warren to a bigger office there and into a Providence office in January 2012.

Recently, MojoTech opened up a satellite office in New York to help better serve clients who are based there, but Kishfy emphasized that the company is committed to Rhode Island.

“This is a great place to live,” he said. “Many of the people we’ve hired in the last year are from outside of Rhode Island and have moved here from all over the country. We’re very invested in Providence and optimistic about its future.”

The company has no outside investors, and so the growth is created purely by client demand. MojoTech has about 30 employees. “We get referrals based on the quality of work we do, and so we’ve been able to build and continue our trend of hiring,” said Kishfy.

Kishfy said the company launches many products each year, garnering larger successes as well as many smaller ones. Its portfolio includes Providence startup Batchbook as well as Passkey. •
