Clothing drive nets nearly 600 pounds

HANOVER, Mass. – The Massachusetts-based Lapels Dry Cleaning’s clothing drive resulted in 598 pounds of clothing from Rhode Island customers that will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters in Rhode Island.
The clothing drive generated a total of 9,480 pounds in donations from customers in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Louisiana, Arizona, Missouri, New Jersey and Rhode Island. More than 30 Lapels Dry Cleaning stores participated. The firm is an environmentally friendly dry cleaner with more than 50 locations nationwide.
At the lone Rhode Island store at 622 George Washington Highway in Lincoln, the 598 pounds of clothing donated was second highest, and tied with contributions from Norton. Lapels Dry Cleaning of Boston South End collected the most clothes: 1,104 pounds.
The donated items will be resold at various thrift shops and other second hand clothing stores, helping to fund Big Brothers Big Sisters programs.
“Our customers are the best. I say it all the time, but once a year during our drive for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Lapels Dry Cleaning customers prove it and then some,” said Kevin Dubois, company CEO. “What’s really staggering, particularly for the Rhode Island store, is that these donations came in over a very short period of time, from April 5 to April 19.”
“In the three years since we have partnered with Lapels on this fundraiser, the customers at Lapels Dry Cleaning have been enormously generous,” added Lori Viner of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State. “Lapels Dry Cleaning is a first-class organization and that’s reflected by their customers. We thank each and every one of them for their generous donations.”
