The College Crusade of Rhode Island honored Irving Schneider and Apryl Silva during its 2013 “Believe Breakfast,” a celebration of supporters working towards the success of the state’s young people, during a November ceremony at the Radisson Airport Hotel in Warwick.
Schneider received the 2013 Dr. Americo W. Petrocelli Award for Distinguished Service. The award, named for the former Rhode Island commissioner of higher education and founder of The College Crusade, acknowledges contributions to the field of college access and success.
Silva received the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award, which recognizes College Crusade alumni with exemplary college and early-career success who demonstrate a commitment to community.
“As a leader in higher education in our state and a longtime member of our board, Schneider, former Johnson & Wales University president, has made significant contributions to the success of our organization and to improving educational opportunity for Rhode Island students. As a promising young professional who is committed to giving back to the community, Silva is an example of what young people can aspire to if they dedicate themselves to success. We are grateful to both of these leaders for helping us inspire, support and believe in youth,” said Todd D. Flaherty, president and CEO of The College Crusade. •
