Commissioner solicits public comment on rate hikes

(Updated 11:40 a.m.)PROVIDENCE – With rate increase requests ranging from 8.6 to 17.9 percent, the four health insurance companies in Rhode Island will be hearing soon from members of the public how they feel about the requests.

Dr. Kathleen Hittner, Rhode Island’s Health Insurance Commissioner, and her office have issued a request for public comment. An overview of the public-comment process can be accessed here. Comments may also be submitted to healthinsinquiry@ohic.ri.gov.

There is also a rate review process public input meeting tonight, Monday, June 22, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission, 89 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick, R.I. 02888.

  1. Just wondering if you have actually tried to follow this link. I did this morning and there is no explanation on the Office of the Health Insurance Commissioners web site that can be accessed for public comment. I tried calling the OHIC and at 10:15 am, there was no way to reach them for assistance.
