Committee formed for RIC president search

PROVIDENCE – The Council on Postsecondary Education set up an 11-member presidential search committee for Rhode Island College at its meeting Wednesday night.
RIC President Nancy Carriuolo will leave her post after the 2016 May commencement, the R.I. Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner said in December.
The new committee, which meets for the first time on Feb. 29, includes RIC faculty, staff and students, as well as council and community leaders. Conversations between the committee and the campus community will start in early March, with plans to recommend candidates to the council in June. If the process remains on track, a new RIC president could be installed before the upcoming fall semester, the council reported.
“The members of the search committee are a diverse group committed to the success of Rhode Island College, and the council greatly appreciates the time and talent they bring to the search process,” said William Foulkes, council chairman. “I look forward to working closely with them in the coming months to identify the strongest candidates for RIC.”
Foulkes, who will also chair the search committee, emphasized the importance of involving the wider campus community in the process of selecting a new president.
“The new president will set a vision for the college, and the search committee needs to understand the campus community’s hopes for a new leader,” he said.
Besides Foulkes, search committee members are:

  • Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, director, state Department of Health;
  • Vincent Bohlinger, associate professor, English, and a RIC council member;
  • Anna Cano-Morales, director, University Outreach and Engagement, Roger Williams University;
  • William Fazioli, president, Rhode Island College Alumni Association;
  • Donald Halquist, dean, Feinstein School of Education and Human Development, RIC;
  • Quenby Hughes, associate professor, history, and RIC AFT president;
  • William Hurry, chairman, Rhode Island College Foundation;
  • The Honorable Thomas Izzo, member, Council on Postsecondary Education;
  • John Rainone, RIC student and member of Council on Postsecondary Education; and
  • Dennis Sousa, computer manager and RIC PSA president
