PROVIDENCE – Commuter trains will begin running to the new Wickford Junction Station in North Kingstown this month with the exact start date set to be announced Thursday, according to a statement from RIDOT on Wednesday.
The initial service to Wickford Junction, run by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, will include 20 trips per day to Warwick, Providence and Boston.
Travel time between Wickford Junction and T.F. Green Station in Warwick is estimated at 22 minutes and travel time to Boston’s South Station estimated at one hour and 17 minutes.
The new, $58 million Wickford Junction Station includes an 848-foot platform, coffee shop, indoor waiting area, air conditioned bathrooms and 1,100-car, four-story parking garage with 10 charging stations for electric or hybrid vehicles.
The start-date announcement will be made at 10 a.m. at the station and attendees will be able to tour the facility.
