Construction jobs climb 2% in Prov. metro in October

PROVIDENCE – The Providence-Warwick-Fall River metropolitan area ranked 179th for its 2 percent construction employment growth over the year in October, the Associated General Contractors of America said Tuesday.
Construction jobs in the Providence metro increased to 23,800 from 23,400.
The Providence metro was among 223 metro areas that experienced construction job growth over the year, while another 73 metro areas had declines, and 62 metros were stagnant.
The Norwich-New London-Westerly metropolitan area ranked 296th for its 2 percent job loss, to 4,300 from 4,400.

The largest job loss over the year was 9,700 in the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, Texas, metro area, while the largest percentage decline for the past year was 16 percent in Decatur, Ill.

The largest job gains occurred in Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, Colo., and Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, Fla., at 10,800 jobs each. The largest percentage gains were in Boise, Idaho, and El Centro, Calif., at 21 percent.
